STAMP- THEMED SPECTACULAR VICTORIAN STEAMER TRUNK. A magnificent metal and wood strapped trunk with curved lid and excellent iron fancywork and hide finnishing. Colourfully lined with entire cover fronts from between 1889 1905, chiefly sent by book post from Stourbridge in England addressed to Mr T. Caswell at Bucklin, Linn County, Missouri, America bearing various GB stamps. Thomas Caswell emigrated from England to Pennsylvania in 1862 and then in 1885 to Missouri, we surmise that he received regular newspapers from the old country and he delightfully lined the trunk and the fitted packing sections within using these fronts. Born in 1828 he married twice and enjoyed 10 children, which might explain why he required such a magnificent trunk! A beautiful piece of furniture and perhaps and exceptional home for a stamp collection. Measures approximately 88 x 52cm and is 70cm high. BUYER TO COLLECT.
