GB.QUEEN VICTORIA 1840 - 1852 PREPAID MAIL collection of 36 prepaid stampless covers (a few are fronts) from May 1840 to 1852 with many different prepaid 1d and 2d handstamps plus additional manuscript or handstamped rate indicators. A few have been written up, including an 1844 (23 Aug) preprinted circular "Friendly hints to the Parents and others connected with those who are or may have been Prisoners" with a personal letter added within from Edinburgh Prison requesting the addressee pay a one guinea fine so he can be released from his 20-day sentence in the prison. A Rare survivor, we hope his friend did pay the fine!
